Sunday Ponderings: Night Owl V/S Early Bird

Hello there...Happy Sunday to y'all...Hope every one's doing well...Work's been busy here and keeping me on my toes...it has kind of been hectic and doesn't seem like going to get better any time soon...anyhoo....it's the end of yet another weekend and I'm up late and so here's the question for this Sunday...

Are you a Night Owl or an Early Bird? No, really...which one of these are you....are you someone who can stay up as long as you want to but sleep like a log once you hit the sheets or are you someone who is an early riser who springs up along with Mr. Sun. And in either case, how late can you stay up or how early can you be wake up and be up and about?

What's that? What about me? Well, I am a night owl...I have always been one except for during my college days when I used to try and roll Night Owl and Early Bird into one...And when I stay up, I can go for close to two days without sleep...Yup, I've tried it alright!

So...that's about me...and my question....hoping to hear back from all my dear dear blog friends...

  1. I'm a reluctant early bird. I fought insomnia for years, and have finally gotten to average 6 hours sleep, but no matter what I do or how late I stay up I am awake around 5AM. It's so bad in the summer, with birdsong and sunrise, but in the winter when it's cold and dark...ugh!

  3. I am an early bird getting up @ 4 AM and after getting ready I head to the office to plan my day in peace & quiet as well as catch up my blog friends. I love that quiet time with no people or phone calls. I am usually in bed by 9 PM or 10 at the latest.

  4. Typically an early bird but if I take my super duper knock out pills I get up later than I like. I love waking up early.

  5. I am a night owl no doubt about it!! No matter how tired I am I can stay up until 3 or 4 a.m. but I'll sleep until about noon. I have never slept any later than noon. I do wake up early if I need to... here's where I roll both into one. Stay up late and wake up early if I need to. I hate doing this but sometimes it happens. I will say at one point I stayed up for 36 hours straight on three hours of sleep! That's the longest I have ever gone without sleep and hopefully I will never attempt that again. Thanks for sharing your pondering's with us :D

  7. I am a night owl and I could stay up to all ours but since I have to get up early 6.45 to give my son his medication, I try to be in bed by midnight! Otherwise I am completely shattered within a few days.

  8. That's an easy one for me! Definitely an early bird, especially when the lovely light mornings are with us once more. I get so tired in the evenings and usually go up at about 10.30 and read my book for a while.

  9. I'm generally an early bird even if work has me up until the wee small hours. I tend to bounce out of bed around 5 or 6 but I still want a coffee before I'm prepared to face other people.

  10. I'm hardly ever to bed befor 2 in the morning ... for no particular reason, but I like these night hours. The I sleep a max of six hours. To wake up at 8 is quite sufficient for someone who is retired! When I have to get up early (for example when I still worked), I liked to get up well in time, to take the time for a decent breakfast, read the newspaper... The pressure of the day came early enough anyhow, no need to start the day in a rush.

(For some reason, I cannot comment with my google-account.)

  11. I try not to be the night owl. I enjoy my sleep and sleep pretty hard. Im tough to get up but enjoy getting up early for my day ahead. Being as busy as I am ALL THE TIME it's best that I get up early to do it! :) So honestly I don't know what this makes me. I guess an early bird!

  12. Once a night owl, always a night owl! The issue with being a night owl though is that the 'real' world seems to expect you to be a sun worshipper. The stores, the offices and the schools.. especially the schools! And while I protested and made the most fuss about school as a child, there is no escaping the issue as a parent :( So while I continue to be a night owl and do come into my element when holidays permit, I am a born again sun worshipper (under duress).

  13. Early bird (that is unless I was a night owl the day before).

I would never be able to stay up two days. When I was in college (many years ago) I took NoDoze to stay up and study all night for exams. They actually knocked me out and I slept through the first two. Oh well!

i'm trying to get more sleep but i think life is against me on it.

  15. I'm an absolute Night Owl. I can stay up until around two in the morning if I'm planning on getting up around 8 or so, but if I have nothing to get up for in the morning I can be at the grindstone with the madness and the glowsticks until much, much...I guess technically it would be 'earlier,' eh?

Interestingly, when I KNOW I need to get up in the morning, it is much more difficult for me to get by on those 5-6 hours of sleep. But if I have a day off, that really all I need.

  16. i'm not really sure. when studying or working at night, i feel so sleepy i can't concentrate. but when i'm just at home and freely lurking the world of web, i can actually stay as late as i want. LOL. but ideally i would want to be an early riser. i feel rejuvenated after a long sleep and i become more productive with Mr. Sun smiling at me.

  18. I'm not really either. Although I am up early for work, I'm not coherent for quite awhile. On the other hand, I tend to go to sleep early because I'm tired.... DH, on the other hand, really ticks me off because he's wide awake after ~5 minutes *and* he stays up late. It's just not fair.
